Does our natural reluctance to mix our social and business lives in the UK mean we are missing obvious opportunities to develop better client relationships?

I was at the Technology for Marketing (TFM&A) conference last week, and as well as a great selection of speakers and exhibitors at the show, I was hugely impressed by the opportunities to network with fellow attendees....

I was at a client event last week at the Little Ship Club on the Thames. A good client of mine was throwing a party for some 350 guests. It was a great venue - and they threw a great party!
Having trained this client in presentation skills, client engagement, networking skills and pitching, it was especially pleasing to see them perform "for real" and I must say I was impressed with the way they practised our golden rules.

If the best someone could do as an initial introduction was “I would like you to do business with me”, I suspect you might turn them away politely. Auto generated invitations from LinkedIn aren't much different.
